Penile Care

For many women when a guy doesn’t take a good care of his penis it’s a major turn off.  Maybe you don’t feel your own odor but it doesn’t mean its not there. Maintaining good hygiene and care of your genitals reduces the chances of developing problems like skin irritations and some common infections.

When washing

When washing your penis, use a mild, unscented soap to wash. Use your hand, not a cloth.Do not use scented body wash on your genitals.Don’t forget to clean the base of your penis and the scrotum — this is a good time to do a quick Testicular Self Examination (TSE) to check for any changes to the area. If you’re sexually active, always give yourself a good clean after having sex. You don’t have to forcibly pull back the foreskin on a child’s penis. There is no need to clean underneath the foreskin in young children.

What is smegma and how do you get rid of it?

It is normal to have some thick, white discharge under the foreskin. This is called smegma. If you have a lot of smegma or it is smelly, you may need to wash your penis more often. Smegma is a substance made up of dead skin cells and oily secretions and it can collect under the foreskin in uncircumcised men. This is natural, but if too much builds up it can produce a pretty unpleasant smell and make it difficult to pull the foreskin back, so it’s important to keep on top of cleaning it.

Uncircumcised care

Pull foreskin back all the way when urinating to prevent infections and foul odors.Clean underneath the foreskin everyday and after sexual activity by pulling the foreskin back, and using a mild, unscented soap and your hand to clean.Once your foreskin separates easily from the glans, gently retract and clean underneath the foreskin with each bath or shower. Then, after washing, pull the foreskin forward to its normal position.

When it’s time to dry off, retract the foreskin again so you can dry the head of the penis with a towel. Then, pull the foreskin forward to its normal position.

It’s OK to clean with soap whether you have a foreskin or not. But generally, too much soap is worse than none at all. Excessive cleaning removes essential body oils that would normally keep our skin moist and reduce friction. If you have sensitive skin, you can use a soap-free wash from the chemist. Do not feel bad about being uncircumcised. Though it may seem less common, the only difference between having a circumcised or uncircumcised penis are a few extra steps in your hygiene routine. Replace the foreskin over the tip of the penis before putting on your underwear.
